Needles and pins!

Today I went for my first acupuncture treatment on the degenerated discs in my neck. Here in the UK acupuncture for animals has to be administered by a fully qualified vet trained in acupuncture and there aren't many practitioners near where I live. J1 was a bit worried that I wouldn't like it as I don't like standing still or being handled by strangers. It did feel kind of weird at first but I think I quite liked it. Here are the types of needles that were used. Turn away now if you're squeamish... I am usually the vets' worst enemy because I bark and cause such a fuss. I was quite well behaved this time once I'd terrorised a rabbit in the waiting room. When the needles were put in place I had to stand still for 10 minutes. J1 held my head so that I wouldn't move but I went into a bit of a trance, drooled on her leg and didn't move at all. I think I had about 12 needles in various points on my hind legs, neck and back.

The acupuncturist wanted to put needles in my front legs and feet but I HATE my feet being touched so he didn't try it this time. I'm going back for another session in two weeks. I'll keep you posted on my progress. When we got home I fell into a lovely deep peaceful sleep for hours. Zzzzzzzzzzz.

Jackson, You're a very brave foxy..try to put up with it,I heard from my friends who've had those needles, that it really helps..would't it be lovely to feel better?
I hate having my legs touched too..I put up a huge fuss when my Mommy tries to comb them..but this seems like a good cause to stay still for. Corragio!!! I'm glad you like my Mommy's paintings..I help her when she does them..I want to eat her drop-cloth, and her brushes, and the paint..she's mean and wont let me do any of those things..but I try and try, like any self respecting terrier puppy. Have a nice snooze, and feel better, love and smoochie kisses ASTA

Hi Jackson, That's unbelievable that you could stand still for 10 whole minutes! I'm so amazed - I could never do that. My mum's previous WFT Caesar, also did not like having his feet touched. xxx Asta

Good wishes from Gus and Teka in Azrizona. Muzzer thinks acupuncture is a very positive healing influence, and said you were very brave. I don't like my feet touched either. Is this a terrier thing or what?

Whoa, Jackson! One twos one twos (ten) minutes! That's got be a world record. Do you leak now when you drink? Arf! Arf!

My dad had accupressure once. It worked reeeallys cooools. Now I practice Fredapressure on his elbow when I want to go outs, eat, drinks or tell him it's time for a shower. I loves it when my humans shower.

Hope all is well.

Wuffs!

Acupuncture is the best! My mum swears by it and her therapist says it either makes you sleepy or hyper....mum always got hyper and used to come home and drive dad mad with her non stop chatting!

Oh those needles makes my body tingle! I can;t see it... I got this thing with sharp shiny long needles. Err...how was it anyway? My bad kitty sis also had once coz she's paraplegic and can't walk properly, keep on slipping & sliding altho she can stand still for a few seconds if she doesn't move a toe. She sure hated it. I just got two injections last week to improve my fur which is now dropping off due to my hormone imbalance. The vet stabbed the injections straight into the stomach, both sides. Ouchy it hurt! Wonder why he prefers stabing it into the stomach then in the thigh...???

I had heard of acupuncture for hoomans but not for us dogs. I'm glad you didn't seem to find it too painful dear Jackson. It seems to have made you groggy and you probably had the best sleep ever which is probably a good thing as you were probably more exhausted from the whole ordeal than anything else.

Hugs from Billy Boo:)

Jackson, I didn't know where else to reply to your questions, so here goes:I tried to sneak into the filming, but they needed criminal types not cute terriers;I love olives, but alcohol, not so much;all my parents' furry kids have beennamed after the thin man characters..they even had a Charlie, then she ran out of people names, that's why I'm Asta..it's a sort of theme I guess, not very original..I was almost Milou from Tin-Tin; my mummy thanks you for the get well wishes..she still feels awful;mor important how are you feeling ..I think about you all the time...smoochie kissesASTA
