Competition time!

Hey pals, I've been inspired by the World Beard and Moustache Championship to host an equivalent competition for dogs. I'm looking for the best moustache or beard or combination of both. Now I know that us terriers have a slight advantage in the beard department, but that's no excuse for other breeds not to participate. Get waxing those moustaches!

Here are the rules:

Only one entry per dog
No cheating! (Ok, a little bit of cheating is allowed)
Closing date for entries is Sunday 1st July.

Please email your photo entries to me at: jacksonwft@yahoo.co.uk

I'll post all the entries here on the blog on Monday 2nd July and then you, dear reader, can vote for the winner. As the organiser of this competition I'm disqualified from entering myself but that's OK as I know that my moustache would win paws down!

Just to let you know what you're up against, here is the first entry from blogging newcomers, Agatha and Archie! Competition will be fierce!

I never knew I was so pupular...

I've discovered that there are some advantages to being ill. I never realised that I would have so many dogs clamouring to come and nurse me.
Meet the the latest recruit to the nurse dream team...

It's Nurse Janie!
Ooooo, I think I'm feeling rather faint...

I need a hobby

Convalescing is B-O-R-I-N-G. I'm not allowed to go out or play with my toys or do anything interesting just in case I rip open my stitches. Even with the two Astas mopping my fevered brow day and night there's only so much boredom a dog can take.

With this in mind I thought I'd try and find something to do that doesn't take much effort and that I can work on here from my very own bed. Then it came to me. What have I got that's the envy of men and dogs everywhere? Yes, you've guessed it, a luxurious beard and moustache!

Imagine my delight on discovering that The World Beard and Moustache Championships 2007 are being held here in the UK in September. The event is being organised by The Handlebar Club based in London so I contacted their Secretary to see if I could take part or perhaps become an honorary member. Sadly, he hasn't replied yet, but I'm going to start working on my moustache preparations just in case. I've only got 3 months to get myself in peak condition.

Firstly, I need to decide which category to enter in:

Of course there is also the "freestyle" category but there aren't any handy drawings to illustrate this. I suppose anything goes!

I'd better get cultivating...

What do you think?

When I told Molly about my plans she also wanted to participate. I didn't like to tell her that ladies don't usually have beards and moustaches.

Not bad for a girl...

Well pals, I feel a whole lot better now that I've got a hobby to work on. I'm just off to wax my moustache...

In the doghouse...

Woe is me. I seem to have upset both the Astas by dreaming of Nurse Clarissa! All I can say in my defence is that I was delirious from all the medication! Here is my dream nurse team...

Nurse Clarissa is history!

Recuperating and sweet dreams...

I know that I promised I'd show you my stitches but J1 says that they're too gory and unpleasant and that no-one would want to see them! She's probably right as they are very red and horrid looking. If anyone is DESPERATE to see them, I can ask J1 to email photos of them to you, OK?
Since my return home I've been mainly sleeping...

...and dreaming of Nurse Clarissa!

Home at last!

Hello pals, I'm back home and in my own bed again. What a relief! Thank you all so much for your kind messages and good wishes. I'm feeling OK and I've got lots of stitches which I might show you in the next day or two.

I thought you might like to see what the hospital was like. It wasn't too bad. Here I am with one of the nurses...cute eh?

I'm not allowed to do anything much while I'm recuperating so J1 & J2 have got to carry me up and down the stairs and generally wait on me hand and paw. I could get used to this!

Good news! Jackson is fine!

Hello pals! Jackson's operation went well. The surgeon removed approximately 40 small and medium sized stones from his bladder. The small ones were the size of apple pips and the larger ones were 3 times that size. Imagine having all those stones rolling around inside you! I bet he's going to feel soooooo much better without them.

In case you're curious, this is what bladder stones look like when they're magnified...

A bit like baked beans!
Jackson asked me to thank you very much for all your kind messages and good wishes. Paws crossed, he'll be home on Friday!
Toodles!

Hamilton reporting

Hey pals, I'm Hamilton and I've been authorised by Jackson to take over his blog while he's in hospital. I've just come out of hospital myself so I know what he's going through. I've been in a toy hospital for the last few months having a hair transplant. OK, I know it sounds frivolous, but I was almost totally bald, rather grubby and I'd lost my nose somewhere along the way. Here are a couple of before and after photos:

Jackson went into hospital today for pre-op tests and is having his kidney stones removed by surgery tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on his progress...

Toodle pip!

Walking the dogs

Here I am out and about with my Irish Terrier pals, Seamus and Molly. This video was recorded a couple of weekends ago and really it's just an excuse for J1 to use the tune "Baby Elephant Walk" (turn up the volume on your computers). Is she implying that I walk like an elephant? You can't see it from the film, but the sea is just to the left of us so the scenary is not as boring as it looks. Notice how Molly keeps trying to push in front of me. She should know by now that I ALWAYS get to walk in front.
