More Tests and a Tomato Beard

Magnified calcium oxalate crystals

Some of the test results from last week are back and have confirmed the presence of calcium oxalate crystals in my urine. These can be quite painful and may go towards explaining my general lethargy. The other results are inconclusive which means I have to go back to the specialist veterinary hospital tomorrow for even more tests. One of the first things they will do is measure my ionized calcium level which could indicate whether the primary hyperparathyroidism and tumour have returned. I might also have to have another ultrasound to see if there are any more kidney stones rolling around inside me. Yada yada yada, I know this makes for pretty boring and gloomy reading. To cheer you all up, here's a nice slightly-out-of-focus-looming-close-up of me (pre-ear scar) with a bit of a tomatoey beard.

Mwah!

29th July 2009

Quick update: Jackson is staying overnight in the hospital for further tests, including an ultrasound and chest x-rays. Results back tomorrow. Thanks for your continued good wishes. J1

Hmmm, not at all what I wanted to hear this morning. I wanted to hear "It was just a bit of bad beef and I'm all better now!" Mommy's going to goggle all those big words for me so we know what's going on. In the meantime, study hard so you can pass all those tests at the Vet with flying colors!

Jax! There must be some way to harvest those crystals and make beautiful, expensive collars out of them that you can they sell to the super wealthy for big bucks to help finance all your tests .... and buy you a massive dog house.

Jackson, we love that tomatoey face! We sure hope they get some conclusive results soon so they can figure out how to treat you! BTW, Penny (who is 9 years old) had calcium oxalate crystals in her urine about a year and a half ago. The vet never did figure out why, but we put her on Senior dog food and they went away after a couple of months. Good luck with all your tests, sweet boy!

Aire-hugs,
Poppy, Penny & Patches
